Week of August 5, 2024:

Dear Students, Faculty, Residents, Staff, Alumni Board Members and Friends,

Good morning from our Elkins Park campus where many of our students are finishing final exams and heading off to a well-deserved break. Here are some happenings around campus:

SUMMER AUDIOLOGY WORKSHOPS: Eight international students just finished up Audiology summer workshops at our Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, campus. Their knowledge exchange was enhanced significantly by collaborative case studies and discussions with outstanding faculty. Look for an upcoming story on our website.

NEW PCO FACULTY MEMBER: During his time at the  Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO)Nikhil Bansal, OD ‘20, was named “Happiest to Be Your Guinea Pig for Clinical Skills,” by his classmates. Not only was he willing to help out fellow students, but his significant astigmatism provided great practice opportunities in clinical skills lab for his classmates. Now, Dr. Bansal has returned to PCO as a faculty member. Read more here

SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD: Amanda Legge, OD ‘12, has been named the Special Recognition Alumna of the Year by the Salus University Alumni Association. Dr. Legge is now a partner at Wyomissing Optometric Center along with Glenn Corbin, OD ‘82, who has trained more than 300 optometry interns from PCO/Salus and Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) and Kerry Burrell, OD ‘03. FINAL THOUGHTS: As we prepare to celebrate the first of two steps in our merger with Drexel with a flag raising ceremony on 20 August, I will be taking a summer hiatus from the weekly update. Rest assured that I will continue to keep you informed about significant developments and important news as necessary. In the meantime, please keep your thoughts and feedback coming. I look forward to hearing from you.

I hope you will take some time to disengage from your normal work and study routines to get outdoors and enjoy the world around us. That will help to keep you all SALUS AT DREXEL STRONG!

-Mike
